The Glass Half Empty - Poetry
You look at the glass half empty
I look at the glass half full
You say my optimism is silly and child like
I think your pessimism is dull
Each morning when I wake up
I’m Thankful for a new day
But you open your eyes and grumble
Wishing everyone would just go away
Happiness is seldom seen on your face
You chase every rainbow away
It’s hard to endure this misery
Sometimes it’s hard to stay
I wish you could stop and realize
Just how blessed you really are
Instead of thinking that life’s passed you by
And what you’ve missed so far
You take beautiful diamonds
And throw them away like old coal
Never realizing their value
Wondering why there is a chill in your soul
Please step in the warmth of the sunshine
Please come and stay a while
I want to hear your laughter
I long to see your smile
Throw off the darkness around you
Walk away and you’ll see
The joy of running in sunshine
The peace in the shade of a tree
No longer look at the glass half empty
Look and you may see
That the glass is really half full
And we’ve been blessed all along you and me
