The Great Stone Dam

Spiers Falls Dam

The Great Stone Dam at Spiers Falls on the Hudson River
The Great Stone Dam at Spiers Falls on the Hudson River

The Great Stone Dam

This poem is a companion to my hub Spiers Falls Dam harnessing the Hudson

The Great Stone Dam

As I sit in the quarry all alone

imagine the sound of steel on stone

A century past yet the scares are still there

A story in stone is everywhere

Silence and peace fill this place

The forest taking back at a slow steady pace

I sit in the quarry and image a scene from long ago

Working men moving to and fro

A dam of stone on the river below

to harness the waters great flow

To this day the Great Stone Dam

supplying power to the land

I have memories of a dam like this in my childhood. Beautiful! I enjoyed this very much. You have this laid out beautifully and it is easy to understand. Keep up the great HUBS. Up one and Useful. Hey! I'm now your fan! RJ

The creation of dams like this one you featured was certainly a massive undertaking and accomplishment. Enjoyed your poem.
