What Do Hubbers Need?
Full Disclosure
I am the last person you should come to for advice on writing a hub since I simply write for past time. However, the formula for making it online is the same as the real world and I am, to a good extent, quite experienced in the latter.
What you will read here is not so much advice and wisdom. No. For that there are plenty of more established Hubbers who can do a great job at shedding a light on that particular topic. This is more of a rambling with some semblance of a topic. How so? I thought I would share what I think we all as Hubbers need to concentrate on, and after a bit of pressing the "explore" button once too often I find that many Hubbers seem to not keep this one thing in mind. Especially when they, unlike me, seem too care a little too much about being successful in Hubpages. Here goes nothing. Also enjoy the ramblings that comes with it.
The World Does Not Care
The one thing you need to realize about this world is the fact that it does not care what you need and what you want. So if you have a list of things you want, and you expect the world to just give you, you can forget about this right now. The world only asks one thing. "what can you give me that I need?" See this is one thing that Hubbers need to realize. When you write a hub, you need to ask yourself this question. "Whatever I am writing, is it of any value to others?" Because let's face it, if you want to be successful here, you need to have readers, you need people. No one can be successful on their own.
No matter how great a product you have in your hands, if no one is buying it, you are done. So rather than finding ways to make money on Hubpages by sharing it in external social media and all that (it only helps a little), start thinking on what do the people here need that I can fulfill, What niche or gap or whatever you want to call it, that I can fill. When you have that covered, people will come flocking and reading and THEY will be the one sharing your articles for you in heaps and bounds.
Let's stop being selfish and start giving others value. You need to give value. When it comes to a site like Hubpages, it is really easy to see how little value you are to others. You can see how many views your Hub has got and how people are responding to it. How valuable you are is directly proportional to how successful you can be in Hubpages.
So when writing, start thinking in terms of "how can this hub be of value to anyone?", "is it something that would blow my mind to the extend that I will share this with my friends on Facebook and Twitter to read?" That is how you need to start thinking if you want to make it here, or anywhere in the world for that matter. The world does not care until you care about it. What value can you bring to the world, online and offline?
What To Do?
Well, the quest for finding that elusive gap or niche is a long one, you need to explore, see if it has been done and how can you make it better. In the meantime, you can also start writing, do not worry about being unique or being good. All you need to do is just start.
When you start that is when things start to fall into place slowly but surely. You need to take the first leap of faith. I am not just talking about writing but about anything.
What is life on this planet if not to give something to each other that is of value? We are here to add value. It is in our nature to add value. It is what nature demands of us. So it is not exactly a business or money making success tip. It more about being our natural self.
Look at the people who have made money, Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, they all added value. They all filed a gap, that no one filled. If you just want to make money the selfish way then you will end up just like Bernie Madoff, and other ponzi scammers. Those people want to make money without giving any value, they are driven by greed and selfish. You need to know the difference here.
The secret to success is find a need and fill it; find a hurt and heal it; find a problem and solve it.
— Robert H. SchullerSo it has been quite a while, I am now going to continue this hub where I left. It is our nature as a child to connect with the things around us, explore, create havoc do something, and not give a care. What happened to that side of us I wonder.
We always want to write, write and write hoping that we will gain more views. Writing is just part of the game, you need to connect with other people, read their stuff, leave thoughtful comments, not because of some ulterior motives, but because you want to connect with them.
Years back before the internet even started, do you know how hard it was for articles to get published? it was very hard, now you just need to press a button called "publish" and voila! I think to connect with other people is something we need to do, you cannot be anything if there is no one else in this world. How are you going to be a writer, there is no one to teach you ABCs in the first place, forget about learning to write.
So it is time to give back, and time to provide and connect. The better you are at it, the faster you will achieve your goals.
But...but..you said you were going to ramble!!
those tips and advice up there are amazing and they sound about right, now let me try implementing that to hubpages and see where it goes. I have written hubs, but I feel I need to be able to connect to more people and leave them with thoughtful comments. I feel like I am missing something just by writing. Hubpages is after all social in nature, so I think I am going to make use of it, to find like minded people.
I am in Bali right now. It is a lovely city, and I come here every other month for work. I enjoy coming here and just watch the sunset, Heaven! Sometimes I do wonder though, this place (Bali) is getting a little too crowded. Same streets and same infrastructure and yet they are building new hotels everywhere, I wonder if their infrastructure can handle it.
I hope they pay attention without giving in to greed. It would be a sad thing if anything were to happen. Thank you Eat, Pray, Love. You really made Bali overcrowded. Elizabeth Gilbert wrote about Bali halfway across the earth, and you can see the influence that book has brought to bali. Tourist from around the world now flock here just to get the Eat Pray Love experience.
Not that I am angry at the tourist, by all means come. I just think that the government should speed things up and make sure everything in Bali is up to date.
Anyway, I shall end this hubpages now, without having a clue what you all need. But I will find out one day. I will find out.
