Defense Accuses George Anthony of Knowing About Caylee's Death

On Day 2 of Casey Anthony's murder trial, Casey Anthony's defense attorney, Jose Baez, pointed his finger at Caylee Anthony's grandfather, George Anthony. According to Baez, George Anthony knew about Caylee Anthony's death way before she was reported missing on July 15, 2008.

In his opening statement, Jose Baez said that Caylee Anthony died on June 16th. She drowned in the family pool. Why did the family report the baby missing? Why did the body end up tossed on the side of the road? Baez claims Caylee's death was an accident that snowballed out of control.

It's not so hard to believe that the Defense team would throw Caylee's grandfather under the bus at this point -- Baez is grasping at straws.

How will the defense team skate around the imaginary nanny who had supposedly kidnapped Caylee Anthony? The public seemed very surprised when Linda Kenney Baden, who left Casey Anthony's defense team, told 48 hours that Casey lied about the nanny.

However, Casey Anthony herself, admitted that Zenaida Gonzalez did not exist. So, Baden didn't reveal a *bombshell* piece of information; in fact, it would surprise me if she left the defense team because her client was slowly boring the hole that would sink the S.S. Casey Anthony.

So, what do you if you're a member of the Defense team and your client admits that she made up the imaginary babysitter who kidnapped her daughter? You tell people she's crazy. But it's not her fault she's crazy, she's the product of crazy people. Don't blame Casey, blame her parents, says Baez. According to Baez, Casey was abused by George Anthony. She supposedly told her mother and was ignored. Casey also claimed her brother, Lee Anthony, abused her.

For the Defense team, it's easiest to pick the weakest link. Who looks unstable? Who seems to be exhibiting remorse and guilt? Well, George Anthony attempted suicide in 2009; let's pin the blame on him. Maybe the pressure got to him. He couldn't stand the guilt anymore, so he tried to take his life. Jose Baez may try to persuade the jury that George Anthony's 2009 suicide attempt was relevent to the case.

If you recall, George Anthony's alleged mistress, River Cruz, AKA Crystal Holloway, told reporters that George Anthony confided that Caylee Anthony's death was “an accident that snowballed out of control." River Cruz attempted suicide in March 2010. She used Twitter to tweet the following message before her suicide attempt: "That whole family knew what happened with Caylee. I'm tired of all this. I never wanted any of this, so now it's time." Jose Baez has used the "snowballed out of control" line throughout the trial.

Defense Points Fingers At George Anthony

Casey Anthony told an inmate, through letters, that her brother (Lee Anthony) touched her while she she slept, and that she "thinks" her father, George, may have touched her inappropriately when she was younger.

In the statement above, Casey seemed like she didn't know if George touched her inappropriately or not. According to Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, George Anthony abused his daughter repeatedly, and she was forced to play with the other kids as if nothing was wrong. Baez claims that Casey Anthony's brother, Lee Anthony, carried on the tradition of abuse.

'Mitigating Factors' May Save Casey Anthony From Death Penalty

Will the Defense team use allegations of abuse, the suicide attempt of George Anthony, and description of multiple 9-1-1 calls made from the home over the past decade, to paint Casey Anthony as the product of a dysfunctional family?

Members of the Defense team can use this information to build possible mitigating factors to keep Casey Anthony from the death penalty if she's convicted of killing Caylee.

There's one hole that Baez forgot to fill, though. If Casey was abused by both her brother and father, why would she even let her 2-year-old daughter near such monsters?
