Kismet

Wow, talk about Kismet! My dear friend Billybuc has reached out to the Hub Pages community to help whomever we can via our voices. H.O.W. stands for Humanity One World. In reading these words, I now see my original slant doesn’t quite fit. However, we are but a small speck in the mass we call Earth, so I shan’t be selfish.

Anyway, back to Kismet; this little story I’m going to relay puts goose bumps all over my body. Not thirty minutes ago, my doorbell rang. I opened the door to find a pleasant couple making a plea on behalf of the poverty stricken children of the world. As they were explaining the program of sponsoring a child through www.children.org, I had to stop them before the pitch ended and make them aware of my upside down debt to income ratio. As I was speaking, I told them I can’t help financially, but I can spread the word through H.O.W. and include their message. They seemed to be tickled by this and I then knew my destiny with Bill’s plea. Once again, I am compelled to stop what I’m doing and write this important message. (Bill you have already reached all the way across the continent! I hear your voice loud and clear!)

It is very clear to me that God wants me to speak on behalf of the children worldwide and that’s what I intend to do with this hub.

There is Hope if You're Willing to Help.

Children International has been reaching out to children and their families for over seventy five years. Their efforts go beyond seeking sponsorship. You donations can be specific to a child or can be used globally. Children International does more than feed and clothe those who are sponsored. They dig and build wells to provide water. They teach the children how to grow and nurture food crops in order to nurture themselves. They provide schooling, even scholarships in order to promote success through education. Eighty three percent of donations received goes towards the programs they have in place to help the deprived children of the world, America included, a better life. That’s a percentage I am more than comfortable supporting!

Sponsored children, in over eleven countries, receive regular health and dental care, clothing; they learn hygiene, nutrition and even skills so they can become self-sufficient. Contributions help rebuild communities, offering a better place to live. The families homes are repaired, clean water provided, bedding, dishes; whatever is needed to improve the basic needs of life.

The poverty level world-wide is astounding. As of 2005, over half the world lives on $2.50 per day. Imagine what those statistics are today! 80% lived on $10 per day in 2005. That includes food, housing, clothing, education, healthcare; everything we take for granted. As of 2011, in America alone, 42.6 million people live in poverty. Of that, 16.1 million are children under the age of 18. We’re talking millions folks! That is not only astonishing, but shameful.

Will You Help Save the Children?

Love Our Children of the World

Most of us reading this have the luxury of a roof over our heads, food in the fridge, a pet or three to feed and a computer by which to communicate. Not all the world is so fortunate. Many of our poverty-stricken children became so through unfortunate circumstances, while others had no choice. They were born into bad situations. No child deserves to come into this life with no choices. Every child needs the opportunity to have dreams and see them as plausible dreams – not pipe dreams! Where will tomorrow’s world be without today’s children?

God has deemed me His messenger today. Won’t you please hear our word and do what you can for our children?

We have everything we need to erase poverty from the planet. Now we need to do it. The video brings tears to my eyes... no child should be denied.

SilverGenes, you have a heart of gold. I so agree with you!

Kismet indeed my friend, and you delivered the message beautifully! Like Silver (Alex) I am blown away by the fact that we can erase hunger tomorrow if we decide to do it. The fact that we have not done so as of yet is truly tragic.

Thank you for being a part of this movement; it means a great deal to me to see you respond so quickly, but this isn't about me or you...it is about "us."

Bill, unfortunately we take life for granted and don't have the suffering of others foremost in our minds. Today opportunity literally knocked on my door, the day after you posted your plea. God works in mysterious ways, but He works through those who listen and spread the word. Look what you have started, my friend! God is listening and He's knocking on doors of those who believe!

Thank you for jerking a knot in our tails. We will wag until we run out of steam, then our children will carry on for us!

The first picture just rips your heart out! Lovely thoughts and powerful message on this problem. I hate that children have to suffer from hunger and lack of love. Praying we will some day see an end to it all.

Another excellent hub on HOW.. it is so sad because it is so true. It is amazing these people knock on your door at the same time bill is putting in a plea for people to write and help . I love this hub.

Beautiful....words and sentiments. There is so much we can do, even if we can't do it monetarily, we can still help! Children everywhere are very lucky to have you speaking on their behalf. Thank you for sharing this powerful hub, photos and video! Up+ and linking to mine!

My only fear I've always had, and I'm being honest is that in giving to a charity I have no idea how those funds are being distributed or allocated. I so wish I could be there to see it all unfold, and or be given a real life conformation as to the current status of the children who are indeed being given help worldwide. Maybe like a real time day to day video connection with such helpless children that these charities are said to be helping.

Since I'm very poorly myself, and have been for quite some time, like you stated here in terms of yourself, its pretty tough to think of trying to give anything monetarily when you don't have it to give.

So I have started my own writing campaigns to help change the world as well a while back, and even enhanced it when me and Billybuc had first become digital friends on HP.

I do it on many differing levels here as a hubpages author, and so I know I'm already doing my part, I also began a movement on Youtube as I told another fellow hubber recently and so I love Bill's concept but I'm loaded with so many of my own projects that I will support this effort of his alone by reading and sharing all the articles I can locate that come from it all.

That will be my part I shall surely do to contribute, I wish I didn't have so many loads of responsibilities already, but my work load capacity is overloaded, but if not he knows I would join forces with him as well, as I've done in the past on a differing subject, and dealing with global injustices as a whole.

Awesome message here to help others gain awareness worldwide, and I hope the word gets out, thumbs up and getting shared just as the wind moves ships that set sail on a long term voyage into the vast open seas.

Teaches, it is indeed heartbreaking. Chidren are so innocent and have no choice how or to whom they are brought into this world!

Deborah, the knock on my door was a sign. I'm sure of it. I'm glad to do my part even if it's only to spread the word.

brt, awesome! The more we link the more likely the message will make its way around the world. Thank you!

Mike, I too question where the money goes for these charities. Children.org actually has their financial statement available for view on their website. There's also a site (I can't remember the link) that offers financial statements for all the well-known charities. In fact, I stopped donating to Susan G. Koman because very little goes towards breast cancer research or to help those afflicted. The fact that you are sharing theses hubs is a huge contribution.

Made, you are so right. We can all do something. No effort is too small.

The first time i saw a picture of a starving child made me cry. I immediately started to sponsor a child. I now give a yearly donation to The Clinton Foundation and he matches your gift, in other words, if one gives $ 30.00, his foundation gives the same amount. I thought this was a wonderful way to give. Thank you for a beautiful hub..

Always, send me the link and I'll add it to this hub. As long as dollar for dollar goes towards the foundation, I'm all for it!

Sha,

I love how you write as though you have been called...I surely believe you have.

As ever we are on the same wavelength with our Michael Jackson selections. Yours is perfect for this piece.

Voted UP and UABI. You are such a cool chick. Love, Maria

Maria, I absolutely was called when the couple knocked on my door, days after Bill had knocked on my heart. God came to me. It's called Kismet in human terms. I accepted it, was adorned by our God and took the challenge to heart right then and there. I recognized my role. I certainly didn't want to be knocked in the face and suffer a bruise! When God knocks, I only need to hear Him once! I learned the hard way. I believe!

Shauna - The couple at the door at this particular time DID give me goose bumps. While that was happening to you, I was cleaning up the living room. I had just added the latest newspaper (that I didn't have time to read) and on the front page is a story about a little boy who was found alone in his home, obviously starving and dehydrated. His parents thought it would be just fine to go on a cruise leaving him alone. I had read Billy's article earlier in the day but hadn't found a chance to write my own.

I immediately came into the den, wrote a letter to our newspaper and published a hub. I think there is a higher power working with all of us.

I thank you for this powerful hub.

Blessings, love and fireflies your way. XO

Another great article promoting H.O.W. It's always so difficult for me to see or face the fact that children live in poverty but it is the reality and people have to face it so they can make a change. You did a great job showing this reality. So many organizations are not receiving funds because of the economy leading to more suffering. I plan on donating to the food pantry weekly because now many families rely on it just to eat. It's so sad but creating awareness can lead to change.

ElSeductor, I know sometimes the question comes up, especially in situations like this, but I truly believe God exists. He brought a couple to my doorstep on the very day I was wondering which avenue to take in this crusade. He has helped me many times. You have to believe in Him in order to hear Him.

Paula, if words or pictures render tears, then that is a message to do something! We, who have compassion can cry all we want, but we will never feel the devastation or hopelessness of those who need our help.

If you cry, please pledge a penny per tear of your time or paycheck to bring a genuine smile to a child's face! This is a plea to the innocent victims of the world. Please help them have a future!

Loved your kismet (great word, by the way) story. I'm sure there are many ways to solve the issue of poverty, all valid. The one I believe in the most is the education of girls, because throughout the world, the research I've read shows that when education of girls increases, poverty is reduced and living standards go up. Thanks for a great contribution to the conversation.

bravewarrior profile image

bravewarrior 4 years ago from Central Florida Author

Interesting information, Louisa. Is it because women are multi-tasker, I wonder?

Louisa Rogers profile image

No, I think it's because women are stable and when they have more resources, they invest in their families.

It upsets me to see people with more money than brains, or compassion. I hate to watch the TV game shows where they give away thousands of dollars that could be used to help the starving children of this world. I have seen the picture at the beginning of your hub somewhere before. As I go to bed at night, I pray to God to please, feed the children in our world and this picture flashes in my mind. It is a heart breaking picture and I know there are so many children in the same shape. I will check out the Childrens International Organization. There are so many that aren't legitimate. So many of them so little money goes to the children, it's hard to find a good organization. Your hub is heart breaking and wonderful. Voting up, awesome and sharing. Bless you! :)

A BEAUTIFUL GIFT FOR GOD By BERNARD LEVINE

When you sacrifice something

to give to the needy

When you teach a child how to pray

When you go out of your way

to help a stranger

It's a beautiful gift for God.

When you speak God's Words

and bring light on the world

When you heal the heart of the suffering

When you show kindness to those hurting

How wonderful and precious that moment is.

When you bring hope into someone's life

When you bless the poor with your love

When you make God your number 1

You bring joy into heaven.

Sheila, when the representatives stopped at my door I asked them if they had business cards. They responded that they do not have cards made up because that would take money from the kids they support. That impressed me. I'm glad this piece is reaching out. Hopefully, it'll help to make a difference.

Sunkentreasure, are you Bernard Levine? This is the second poem of his you've posted in comment to my hubs. It is a nice poem.
