Romney Rocks Newt in Jacksonville Role Reversal
Romney’s Mitts were off upon the sound of the opening bell in Jacksonville Florida. Whether it’s attributable to Mitt’s new debate coach or simply standing up to the Schoolyard Bully, the results clearly benefitted Mr. Romney. Newt walked into the debate stage back on his heels, never recovering from his defensive posture.
Romney’s ‘Opposition prep.’ paid off in a big way regarding the immigration issue. His indignation to Newt’s allegation of being the most ‘anti immigration’ of the candidates ultimately lead to a demand for an apology and strong raucous approval from the spectators. The extended back and forth session was clearly decisive in Mitt’s favor, finishing Newt off with a comical ‘Grandma Response’ to his adversary’s point.
Cnn stoked the attack ad fire, confirming a disputed point that Mitt endorsed the statement, “Speaker Gingrich called Spanish the language of the ghetto.” The crowd’s vocal response of such tactics was evident through their guttural disapproval to this factual enlightenment.
The issue of Fannie and Freddie with respect to the ongoing Housing crisis proved to be the preeminent deciding factor of the night. Romney punched Newt into a corner prompting a haymaker from Newt. Mitt deflected the blow leaving Newt open to a subsequent attack. Romney blow clearly landed staggering Newt into taking a knee on the canvas.
Rick Santorum played a key role interjecting a strong statement calling for the debates to focus upon the issues instead of petty personal politics. The moderator, Wolfe Blitzer took issue by returning from the break, immediately stoking the fire with a Tax Return question which led to another key exchange from the frontrunners.
As for the sideshow candidates; Ron Paul added comic relief one liners in what can only be described as vintage Ron Paul. Rick Santorum had a strong performance and if he were a top tier candidate may have been the winner of Round19. The winners of the night were those in attendance in Jacksonville. Their measured response to the candidates was worthy of note regarding proper audience participation.
