Should a Soldier's Tour of Duty be limited?
Would the recent tragedy in Afghanistan have been averted if a soldier was given a limited number of tours of duty? This person was on his 4th and surely it must be detrimental to his thinking and attitude.
It is really important to examine the issues surrounding limiting the number of tours of duty for soldiers.
Service members undergo a checklist prior to deployment to determine how fit they are for the tour of duty.
One of the boxes that has to be checked off involves talking to somebody about the mental and emotional aspects of deploying. You don't go unless that individual says you are mentally/emotionally ready to do so.
(In addition, Soldiers get re-evaluated when they come home.)
Personally, I would not want to be that someone who tried to keep a Soldier/Marine/Airman/Seaman from fighting alongside their buddies overseas for no other reason than "you hit your limit."

With the news that a further 8 UK service personnel have died in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours it means that deaths in this war now exceed those due to the Iraq conflict. As a result calls are increasing for the troops to be pulled out. What are your views on the matter?

If your country was invaded, would fighting to free your people from occupation make you a terrorist?, therefore being feared, hated and eventually punished, or would you become a public hero, reaping the benefits along the way? What are your thoughts?
