   The Tortoise will prevail in any society. The story is a satire on ignorance, ridicule, and presumption. Three bad ingredients for a successful race by life's end. jusayin! peace ~ gregZ

   Ultimately the tortoise won the race, even though he was slower, because he possessed the ability to remain focused and stay on task. In contrast, the hare could not avoid distraction and wandered off of the path toward the goal too often.  Time and again, I have witnessed people who could work at high speed but in almost every case they made mistakes and they failed to question the detail or understand why a particular step was taken.  Given the same set of distractions as offered in the original story and I would still bet on the tortoise to come through with the desired outcome first.  Never sacrifice speed for accuracy. WB
