Noodling is the name for "hand fishing" given to catfish fishermen, typically in the Southern U.S. This risky fishing technique involves person reaching into underwater pockets and holes to find and grab the fish inside. Often, fishermen are blinded by muddy water. Successful "noodlers" have scars of success on their forearm from the rough mouth of a big catfish. Fear of handling a fish that is too big or placing their hand near the knuckle busting mouth of a snapping turtle are examples of the risk involved.
