A request to add you as a friend
This morning I received a note to add you as a friend
I thought it rather strange because I know not where you stand
I know not where you come from or your views of God and man
Should I ask for information so more of you I’d comprehend?
So many people on here are friends with people they don’t know.
They simply answer yes so their friend’s list, it will grow
I endeavor more to be selective of the ones I add to mine
It’s now exceeded many and in a short amount of time
Some of the ones I‘ve here added are friends from long ago
And some are fellow writers and others; agents that I know
Some are people that support causes in which I believe
And some are friends that play cooking games and planting seeds
How shall I respond, should I use poetic verse?
There has not yet been a cure for that type of literary curse
You want to be my friend but you've yet to read my work
It causes one to wonder in what shadows you may lurk
I received today an e-mail asking for you and I be friends
Yet all you know about me is my age and I'm a man
The writing I compose speaks of my nature and my views
My curiosity comes forth, why these actions you ensue?
I see you love to read and the books you've read are plenty
I hope as we move forward in kindred thought we will share many
In time we can look back on when our friendship had begun
and mark it of a day we will reflect on as caution overcome
So I will answer yes to the request of which you queried
And add you as a friend though I once of you felt leery
For life is short and cumbersome and true friends very few
Therefore I won’t pass up a chance to add the spirit that is you
