To glimpse the face within that’s cast
She dares not inquire or ask to see
Inward she fears of what may be
Porcelain mask to fit his face
By artist hand his secret in cased
Her mind perplexed of what she’ll see
If the fruition comes to be
His secret kept from years well passed
The truth instilled and well abashed
Fear whelms and holds desires back
Confounded by the strength he lacks
His heart revels in his love for her
But without the mask he can’t be sure
If he removes the mask to let her see
Will it undo his dreams to be?
Each night she sings on opera’s stage
And he within a mental cage
Her voice rings within the opera walls
And deep inside his soul it calls
His dreams plagued with thoughts of her
While passions rage inside unfurls
Taunting emptiness that builds within
Knowing her love is not for him©
