Wives of Cain!
Genesis 4: 15-17
Then the Lord said to him, “Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him. Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.
Do you believe that God created all Humanity out of Adam?
The Question?
One of the most commonly asked questions from the Bible is where the children of Adam and Eve, Cain and Seth found wives.
Note that no children were born while Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden.
Adam was 930 years old before he died. If they had a child every year, let’s say from 30 years old (there were no contraceptives) you could have a staggering figure of children in 930 years of your lifespan. That is without twins, triplets and such. Their children also had children and their children – and that is where humanity comes from.
They would have taken the daughters of Adam and Eve, their own sisters as wives, as was common in those days to do. The Bible is not clear on where their wives come from, because only the male children were recorded, but reading the word shows the truth.
When God gave Moses the law He stated that no brother and sister are to be married. until that time it was common law under the nations. By this time humanity had grown to a point where this law was not only possible, but necessary.
God only created one man and out of his flesh, (his rib) his wife and out of the combined flesh of man and woman, their children and eventually us.
God in His total wisdom and superiority decided to make all humanity out of one man, Adam. God did not (as some preachers preach) make or create more humans later!
Those born out of Adam are a living soul, the first Adam, and will die on this earth, dust to dust.
God also gave us a second Adam - Jesus as a life giving Spirit. All that is of Him will also be a life giving spirit and will live forever.
Until Noah and the flood, the people grew very old.
Geneses 6:3: Then the LORD said, "I will not allow people to live forever; they are mortal. From now on they will live no longer than 120 years."
Adam 930 - Seth 912 - Enos 905 - Caiman 910 - Malalaleel 895 - Jared 962 - Enoch 365 - Methuselah 969 - Lamech 777 - Noah 950
We see that as time progresses, the people’s lifespan is dramatically reduced. For example: Adam was 930 and Jacob only lived up to 147 years old. I believe that as sin increased, so also their days decreased.
Sin brings death.
Shem 600 - Arphaxad 438 - Salah 433 - Eber 464 - Peleg 239 - Reu 239 - Serug 230 - Nahor 148 - Terah 205 - Abraham 175 - Isaac 180 - Jacob 147
Personally, I think that the first people on earth (before the flood) were living in totally different circumstances; the atmosphere was still unpolluted and was pure and clean and there was less sin.
All that was then, the first earth, before the flood, perished with it.
Our earth as we know it today is what was left after the flood, a very different and new world.
What is interesting about the first people on earth is that when Abraham was born, Noah was still alive, so Abrahan could hear the truth about what happened from the original source, "Noah"!
Acts 17:26
And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart
Genesis 6:1-7
And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh:yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Let me pause right there. First, let's identify the Sons of God. There are some people - there have been even some paraphrase Bibles, and that's what caused a lot of the problem, not translations but paraphrase Bibles, that say these Sons of God are Heavenly Beings or Angels that had intimate relations with human women.
Now if we let the Bible interpret itself, you notice for one thing that when Luke does the chronology of Jesus in Luke chapter 3 38 and he says, 'And Enos was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God.' Adam is called the son of God. Then you go to 1 John chapter 3 verse 1 and it says, 'Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us that we should be called sons of God.' All right so here it's telling us the sons of God are people but these sons are committed people, people committed to the Lord.
After Cain killed Abel, Adam and Eve had another son named Seth. And Seth, it says, feared the Lord. Seth and his descendents were children of God. Cain was carnal Enos. That means he was a mortal man. He did not have everlasting life. As long as they remained separate, the truth of God was preserved but when the sons of God began to marry - the children of Seth began to intermarry with the daughters of Cain - then that distinction, that holiness, evaporated. That's why in the next verse, we see God say's "My Spirit will not always strive with man." He got 120 years before the flood. And so the sons of God were the descendents of Seth that were true to the Lord. They still offered sacrifice to God. The daughters of men were the daughters of Cain's descendents who had not the knowledge of God.
- What is your perception of God?
What is your perception of God? If the Bible is the authoritative Word of God, what should we expect to find in it? - Trust the living God!
Much of life is placed beyond our control and from the moment of our birth we have no option - but to trust. The reason to trust depends on circumstances, but it is God that gives life.
