Seeing with Love or Envy?

Updated on January 13, 2013

I had not heard of the quote mentioned above until I started to look for quotes on love to share in my writings. I couldn’t resist and purchased the cute Cupid picture to create a poster to match the quote.

How apt! When we are free of envy, we look through eyes that see the wonder in the tapestry of life. We enjoy seeing the good of others and perhaps this reminds us life is not all about drama, sadness and ugliness. There is also loving, goodness and wonder beauty as a night sky filled with stars.

But, when ego’s weakness in the form of envy rears its silly head, instead of looking up and wishing others well, it seeks to scrutinize the person’s gifts or blessings in order to find something wrong and dismiss it. Some even try to destroy.

I have my weaknesses, but envy has not been one of them, so on the rare occasion when I have found out by a chance remark (sometimes years later), that an acquaintance or friend was envious of me, I became a little disconcerted and wondered but why? What is there to envy? It’s not a put down to myself; it’s an awareness that we all have our unique talents and blessings. It's an acceptance, that in this world of diversity, there will be humans with much more talent than I. It’s okay in my world.

Another person's greatness does not diminish my own light.

When we compare ourselves to others, covet what they have; we are coming from a place of lack that implies we have something missing or wrong with us. We are focusing on the fleeting world outside of us as a measure of success.

True abundance comes from within in the form of peace, love and harmony. Nothing can match this state of being. Nothing. Our world becomes a little paradise even in the simplest of surroundings and every blessing theirs and ours – a natural expression of an abundant universe.

We serve the world better, even contribute to healing, when we live in a state that encourages the good in ourselves and others. In the words of a wise teacher, everyone wins.
