In Honor of the 2012 Olympics
A time when the world can put away anger,
and all the fearful thoughts of war,
Then to come together in a mutual respect for each,
and enemies, to be no more.
A competition of societies, and the athletic prowess shown,
they each so represent,
Olympic festivities and the spectacle of it all,
serve as heaven's pardon, so sent.
Track and field, wrestling, and the boxers,
and with gymnastics, all to compete,
Volleyball, rowing, archery, all shooting sports,
each requires the best athlete.
Diving from the boards and fine gymnasts,
all represent beauty in their grace,
To entertain in their movements, they earn medals,
for those who do so place.
A time when thoughts of a terror and threats,
put aside, all but to disappear,
A coming together of all mankind, a special relief,
and welcomed, it is so clear.
Since times of old, as the ancients ran,
to record their strength, and to be an art,
The olympians of every country represent,
their self worth, and to do their part.
All honor and respect to you, oh Olympiade,
in the time 2012, it's your year,
With greatest fondness, ours, and to enjoy your works,
of you, all we see and to hear.
Those who may compete and lose an event,
they're winners just the same,
The loss or victory, a result in the end,
to be there and to try, is no shame.
We all feel the hurts and joys in the games,
a sharing and caring exercise,
The very spirit, a human need, helps all succeed,
and to prevent our own demise.
A memory of the special time,
so now received from you,
gifts given by all the free fleeting spirits,
each and everyone,
A golden medal, a trophy in its own reward,
please do accept, under a warming sun,,
in the fine marvels, so performed,
and that you now so well, have done.
