How many of you watch Wimbledon? If so, who do you follow most?
I am glued to it every year. Tennis is my favourite game, both to watch and to play. What is it about Wimbledon which makes it so special?
I was lucky to have been way back in the day of Borg, Mc and Navratilova to name a few. I tend to follow the Grand Slams more than specific players now. Wimbledon is unique being grass court and strawberries and cream but the other side was always the unpredictable weather - a nightmare! Thankfully it has proven less of an issue now.
Wimbledon is the creme de la creme of tennis tournaments. Not only has it resisted the temptation to turn to clay or canvas or tarmac or whatever else is laid down and marked out as a tennis court, but it retains that aura of a true tennis competition, where skill and stamina are tested to the limit.
My old ma watches Wimbledon every year - she's 92 now - and still gets a thrill from centre court ding dong matches. Does she know anything abot other tennis tournaments? Not a jot but she has her t.v. books open and the study guides ready when SW19 time comes around.
Is there anything as silky smooth as that green grass on centre court? It epitomises the English summer tradition - strawberries and cream, big silly hats, flowery dresses, someone red faced asleep on row 23 and the smack of slazenger on slazenger?

With Federer leading the pack in terms of Grand Slams, many are stating that he is the greatest player of all time. However, are the efforts of Borg, McEnroe and others greater even though they did not win as many slams?
