You might not be able to get the same numbers using other tools when doing keyword research as the Google Keyword Planner, but there are some decent alternatives.
Google Webmaster tools displays impressions for a website or page, and shows click through rates for those keywords. The date range is a bit limited, as you can't travel very far back in time to see older stats.
Google Trends is pretty cool to see traffic fluctuations for particular keywords, but it doesn't give you solid numbers for specific keywords.
Wordtracker is pretty old, but still works. I don't really use it, but maybe you would find it helpful.
SEM Rush is a paid service, but I believe you can still do quite a bit of keyword research without paying. You may have to sign up for an account though, I can't quite remember.
I hope that helps, let me know if you find one in particular that I didn't include that you like!
