Bangkok's Mac Boutique Suites Hotel Review
Mac Boutique Suites - Another Fine Budget Hotel in Bangkok
Mac Boutique Suites is located in Bangkok's prime tourist hot spot in the Sukhumvit district on Sukhumvit Road Soi 7. It is close to the city's best and most well known clubs such as Q Bar and Bed Supper Club. Mac Boutique Suites is also a guest friendly hotel situated right between the red light districts of Nana and Soi Cowboy which are only just a short 15 minute walk from the hotel's doorsteps.
Although the hotel's immediate vicinity is very quiet, it is still quite close to a lot of unsavory sights that may put off travelers with young children or the eyes of the mother in-law. Halfway from the entrance of Sukhumivt Road Soi 7 to the hotel's entrance is a beer garden where men pick up local women. Even though none of the monkey business is visible it is understandable that parents with children may not want to stay in a hotel in the area. It is a fine hotel for adults but not really considered a kid friendly hotel in Bangkok.
It is one of the best budget hotels along Sukhumvit which is well known in Bangkok as an expensive neighborhood when it comes to hotels. There is no fitness center or swimming pool however so if you're looking for a hotel in the same budget price range as Mac Boutique Suites with a swimming pool and gym then consider staying at guest friendly Boss Suites in Sukhumvit Soi 4.
My Video Review of Pearl Studio Room #222
I booked my room through Agoda.com and paid around 1400THB per night ($45USD) which included buffet breakfast and taxes. At the time, the walk-in rate from Mac Boutique Suites was 1800THB per night for the same dates.
Originally I had booked a Smart Studio Suite room with breakfast through Agoda.com. While checking in I was upgraded to a Pearl Studio room instead. What's the difference? I'm not sure. But any upgrade is better than no upgrade.
Mac Boutique Suites Pearl Studio rooms are located in an annex building just a short distance away through the hotel's restaurant. And I was given a room on the second floor, room #222. I asked for a non-smoking room and thought I was in one because there was scent of smoke in the room. Until I saw an ashtray on the desk. Since there was not a scent of cigarette smoke in the room I did not bother asking for a room change. Though I did ask reception if there is a non-smoking floor just to confirm and the reply was that there is.
What I like most about the Pearl Studio room I was given is the big space, around 32 square meters, with plenty of space to store your clothes in the big armoire that comes complete with 2 extra big fluffy pillows, bathrobes and slippers plus the electronic safe that is bolted to the base of the armoire . There is a small refrigerator and a hot water maker with powered coffee and tea. The large flat screen television has plenty of English news and entertainment channels to keep you occupied.
The bathroom in my Pearl Studio room is big too. Though I am not a big fan of the shower head which was thin and narrow. The tap on the sink has hot water which is a rarity in budget hotels but important for people like me who still thinks it is important to wash their hands often with hot soapy water.
My room was clean and very well maintained. The bed is very wide and very comfortable with nice soft pillows. Since I was on the second floor there really was no view and since the hotel is quite short I suspect that most of the rooms will be directly facing other surrounding hotels.

With the BTS Sky Train and MRT subway station close to the Mac Boutique Suites it is very easy to explore and shop in Bangkok. Even though the nearest BTS Sky Train entrance is just a short 5 minute walk, the hotel offers a complimentary tuk tuk ride to the station.
There are two entrances to the hotel from both Sukhumvit Soi 7 and Sukhumvit Soi 11.
There is free Wi-Fi throughout the Mac Boutique Suites and I noticed that there were 2 routers per floor that has only 10 rooms. And the connection was quite fast.
What I don't particularly like is the quality of the doors. They are very thin and you can hear the noise from the hall easily. And to make things worse my room is connected to another room by a set of doors locked on either side which is particularly designed in mind for larger families. However, the doors are made of the same thin faux wood material so the noise from the television or a conversation could be heard easily. Lucky my neighbors next door slept early. So if you are a light sleeper be sure to ask for a room that is not connected to another.
Overall, Mac Boutique Suites is a very good budget hotel in the heart of Bangkok's nightlife center. It's an ideal location for exploring Bangkok and a good hotel to relax in after a long day of exploring.
