Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants on Oahu, Hawaii

Parents have a number of restaurants to choose from when it comes to dining out with their keiki, and here are just a few of them that offer a kid-friendly atmosphere on Oahu.

After a 20-plus year absence in the state of Hawaii, Farrell's returned to the island of Oahu to the delight of many who had fond memories of dining at Farrell's as a kid.

Since reopening in Pearlridge Center, many who once dined at Farrell's have been returning with their own children for family dinners and birthday celebrations.

The Keiki Menu includes typical kids' fare such as Chicken Nuggets, Hamburger, and Hot Dog, all of which come with Criss-Cut Fries. They also offer keiki-sized desserts, such as the popular Clown Sundae.

What really sets Farrell's apart from other restaurants is the little "library" near the entrance from which kids can borrow books and read while they wait for their food.

Little ones may get frightened by the siren that occasionally goes off to signal a birthday celebration, but the atmosphere is fun and inviting, and definitely kid-friendly.

Big City Diner is a popular dining option for families who crave their local specialties, such as Grandma's Incredible Kim Chee Fried Rice or the Baby Back Ribs with Guava-BBQ Sauce.

The Keiki Menu, which also offers local-style dishes, such as the Loco-Moco for breakfast or Guava-BBQ Chicken Breast for lunch or dinner, includes a drink and the option to add on a Fresh Fruit Cup (breakfast) or Small Salad (lunch or dinner) for just $.99.

Brown rice can also be substituted for white rice for many lunch or dinner menu items.

Big portions (even for kids meals), reasonable prices, and friendly service are just a few reasons why families love to dine out at Big City Diner.

One obvious feature that "draws" families to Romano's Macaroni Grill is the paper tablecloth that covers the tables throughout the restaurant.

After watching their servers scribble their names onto the tablecloth with a crayon, the kids themselves are eager to start doodling while parents peruse the menu.

And often times parents will join in on the fun, drawing pictures or playing word games with their kids, right on the table, while they wait for their meals to arrive.

As for the menu, it's quite a deal for a complete meal.

Whether your child chooses Spaghetti, Chicken Fingerias, or any of the other menu items, drinks are included, and so is dessert.

Update April 2012: Dessert is no longer included in the Kids Meals, however Vanilla Gelato is offered for $1.

Large, tall booths at Black Angus Steakhouse allow families to dine without having to worry about their kids peering over into the next booth, potentially bothering other customers as it often happens at other restaurants.

Their Kids Menu offer favorites such as Chicken Strips and Cheese Pizza. All meals come with Orange Wedges in addition to a choice of French Fries or Rice.

Drinks are not included, but dessert is - a scoop of vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce and sprinkles - a simple yet indulgent way to end a meal.

Kids have a lengthy list of entrees to choose from. In addition to favorites such as the Chicken Crispers and Corn Dog, healthier options, such as the Grilled Chicken Platter and Grilled Chicken Sandwich, are also available.

The list of side items, which include fruit and veggie options, are plentiful too. Mandarin Oranges, Corn on the Cob, or Steamed Broccoli are just a few of the many sides kids can choose to round out their meal.
