Tropical Travel Tips

Traveling to a tropical destination can be so fun and relaxing. Just remember to make sure you do not go out in the heat of the day and get sunburned and ruin your whole trip by the burning sensation all over your body! When we were in Hawaii I saw so many people burnt to a crisp, I felt so sorry for them. That is why I am writing this hub, so you can have a great time on your vacation and avoid all the pitfalls of the NO FUN ZONE of vacationing!

#1 Go to your Doc

For some tropical destinations you need to get some vaccinations, they are among the most important measures for maintaining the health during journeys in the tropics. Vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory for many African countries and for French Guyana. Vaccinations against meningeal meningitis is mandatory for travel to Mecca. All travellers to tropical countries should be vaccinated against hepatitis A, diphtheria-tetanus and for people below forty years of age should get a measles vaccination. Other vaccinations for typhoid fever, hepatitis B,poliomyelitis, rabies and Japanese encephalitis should be provided according to the destination you are traveling.

#2 Stay out of the sun at noon

Do you know why most Mexican's take a siesta? (That means a nap in the afternoon.) Because they get out of the sun at the hottest hours of the day. This prevents heat stroke and sunburns. Bring sunblock and USE it. my son never likes to wear it , but after his first sunburn he realized he better wear the stuff I put in his bag.

# 3 Bring it, when it comes to medications

Bring your medications and make sure you have enough for the whole trip. Also carry some travel sickness pills, pepto bismol and imodium. So, while everyone else is having a good time, you have to run all over town to find the stuff you need. It is more fun to be sipping on your Margarita and saving your time for fun!

Water & Drinking

Bottled water is the best. In Mexico order your drinks off the rocks, because the water in the ice can be contaminated. When you are drinking it is good to keep hydrated as well. When you get tired of paying too much for drinks at the bar, slip some tonic water and gin in your empty water botte and nobody will know the difference! But it is always really nice when you are staying at an all inclusive resort because you really do not have to worry about overpaying for stuff.

Packing Tips and Airport Security

OK here is the deal, if you are going to buy T-shirts then only pack a few in your bag. Same with clothes. Only bring a carry on bag with you. You will never have to wait in line to check your bags and you will always HAVE your luggage. Roll it up like the military does. Don't pack lotion sometimes the chemicals can set alarms off. Do not bring too many liquid cosmetics 3.4 oz or less is the liquid rule for TSA. All liquids must fit in a 1 quart Ziploc bag. Then you wont have to hold up the line and make all the alarms go off. NO AEROSOL that means: spray deodorant and hairspray. If you buy liquids on vacation send them via mail before you go home. I always wear flip flops or slip off shoes when I travel, so I can just slip them off and on when I go through security. It is so much smoother that having to sit down and put shoes back on and tie them. Bring Tennis shoes, or hiking boots for hiking in your bag. I roll my swimsuit up with a cover-up, so I remember to take one, if it gets rainy, or windy too.
