"I come from a land down under...you better run, you better take cover." Though I have no formal training as a writer or any literary qualifications (as many others here on HubPages have) I have always had a desire to be able to call myself a writer, but until joining HubPages it was just a hobby. I have considered myself a poet for some time but not in the traditional technical sense. I enjoy rhyme but like to experiment and dabble in many different forms and maybe even make up some of my own. After a lot of procrastinating I have finally self-published my first eBooks of poetry "I Laughed a Smile" and "On the Wings of Eagles" at Lulu.com.

Now I find myself branching out and experimenting with short fiction and even writing instructional articles based on my observations of the art of writing and how I approach it. I like to think I succeed at giving most of my essays a unique and personal feel.

Recently with the encouragement and help of some friends, I started a new website specifically for poets and creative writers, The Creative Exiles (creativeexiles.com) and so far the site is exceeding all expectations. We have recently published our first anthology of poetry on Amazon (The Creative Exiles...Let the Words Speak)

My personal life is largely devoted to lessening my footprint on our precious Earth and hopefully succeed in encouraging others to try to become as self-sufficient as possible. I studied for a certificate/diploma in Permaculture design which helps in an effort to attain this goal. We need to do everything we can to protect our world and preserve it's natural assets and wildlife. It is my belief that climate change is real and a genuine threat to our well being if left unchecked.

Homelessness, poverty, and the unrealistic and uneven distribution of wealth in the world is the greatest injustice. While governments bow down to rich multi-national companies and are more focused on having a booming economy in surplus than the well-being of the most disadvantaged citizens, equality and quality of life will just be pipe dreams.

In a past life I spent 17 years employed with Queensland Railways as a clerical officer, followed by ten years working in Central Queensland University Library (a dream job for someone as in love with books as I am). More recently I have worked as the secretary for a rural fire brigade as well as an active firefighter. My wife, Kathleen, and I also held the positions of President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Queensland branch of Hope Bears Charity, co-ordinating the knitting and distribution of 'hope bears', and other items for cancer patients in oncology wards, nursing homes, and also maternity wards.

I love books and reading and now writing, aiming to be as diverse as possible in the subjects I choose. Hopefully, I have something to please everyone.

The kind and encouraging comments (as well as constructive criticism) from fellow hubbers have spurred a new creative urge in me and I deeply treasure this wonderful community.

A couple of my favourite quotes:

I have had a few hubs moved to various niche sites with hub scores ranging from 69 to 87.
