Hello! My name is Michael Ray King. Writing crashed through the walls of my heart back in 1979. My college English professor, Pat Urbas, told my class 75% of our grade would be a short story we would construct over the semester. The collective groan eminated as much from me as anyone else in that room. A funny thing happened on the way to creating that story. I got into it. Each step of the way I became more enamored of writing and stories and their construct. On the last day of class Ms. Urbas chose the story she considered the best and read it aloud. From the first sentence I prayed no one would look my direction. She was reading my story, A Race Against Love. As we left class, Ms. Urbas pulled me aside and said, "Mike, you should consider writing as a vocation." My thoughts were cluttered with, Who me? and I'm an accounting major not a writer! Yet, from that day forward I wrote.
I wrote poetry, short stories and essays. I said to myself over the next twenty years, One day I'll be a published author. Then, in November 1999 I nearly died on an operating table in Deland, Florida. Over the course of my three month recovery, I vowed my "one day" would happen.
Over the course of the next seven years I joined writers groups, studied the publishing industry and attended conferences. I quickly learned the publishing industry ran a corrupt business model that financially abused writers. I also learned there were options available to writers that could produce income.
At that time I found a mentor and started up my own publishing company. The first three years I would not accept outside manuscripts because I wanted to learn how to professionally produce books. I published two titles of my own, Fatherhood 101 and Loves Lost and Found.
The publishing industry is splintered and morphing every day. My passions are writing and publishing. My Hubs reflect these passions. My hope is that something I've written on this site helps you, the writer.

Hub Pages has become one of my favorite writing locations. I love the community as well as the format. I'm looking forward to connecting with more writers from around the world. Isn't this an astounding time to be alive? Think of the countless quintilions who never had the opportunity to communicate with people from EVERYWHERE! We can learn much from each other and that's what I intend to do.
