Derek-Robert Cherven is a former United States Marine, a retired Massachusetts State Trooper and Master Freemason. He served honorably with the 4th Marines – MWSS 474, Detachment Bravo at Westover ARB from 2000-2004. In November of 2004, he joined the Massachusetts State Police and was appointed to positions at the state’s crime lab, the Department of Justice – Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Bristol County District Attorney’s Office as a forensic analyst. He is recognized by the Massachusetts Superior Court as an expert in the field of digital forensics and was the lead forensic investigator in several high-profile murders, narcotics and white-collar criminal cases. Trooper Cherven instructed for the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) and taught “Electronic Crime Scene Procedure” at local law enforcement academies across the region. In August of 2013, Trooper Cherven was injured while apprehending an armed gunman and as a result, he medically retired in February of 2015.

Derek-Robert has since been hired as a consultant for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, IBM and several fortune 500 companies as a digital forensic and information security analyst. He studies political science and economics at a local community college and maintains a near perfect GPA. After completing his AS, Derek-Robert will finish his BS at Northeastern University before applying to law schools in the region.

In addition to his full time studies and consulting business, Derek-Robert donates his time to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Special Olympics and serves as the Massachusetts Veterans for Bernie Sanders state director.
