Background on a tech-loving, entrepreneurial Hubber
In my opinion, you are easily the most upbeat, positive person that I have met on HubPages. You are constantly giving words of encouragement and affirmation to other Hubbers, and a general theme of many of your Hubs is to help others maximize their online skills. What makes you tick? Where does all this positive energy and your affirming attitude come from?
Bill, thanks for selecting little ol' me from all the awesome Hubbers you had to choose from. I think all of my life’s struggles combined is what drives me to be who I am. I desire to be humble and to care for the likes of others, just as you’ve been doing when it comes to being so supportive on HubPages. I have always been this way since I was a young child, I was always full of energy and very helpful to my mother, friends, and family- also to strangers, but as far as the web and writing online is concerned. This time I have an active audience of over 250,000+ like minds to share such energies with. So what truly makes me tick as for HubPages and being an online communicator, as well as a writer, is the fact that folks like yourself are willing to communicate with me and keep me going all day and night long on the web making efforts for each other.
Mike, I have probably read thirty if not more of your Hubs, and there is quite a variety to choose from out of your 270+ Hubs. There are science Hubs, technological Hubs, Hubs about other Hubbers, and quite a few “how to” Hubs and Videos. What is your favorite subject to write about? What subject are you most passionate about?
Good question, Bill. My favorite subject is actually creative writing and literature; the only thing is I also love writing about technology. Maybe someday soon I can figure out how to combine both subjects into a cool sort of technological creative writing form. Now, when it comes to writing with passion Bill, ummm… it has to be the subject of poetry. I have been writing poems ever since I was in grade school, and it was my most talented form of writing. I have learned to fuse technology in a creative way into my poetry, but as I stated above, I haven’t yet done such a thing on HubPages as a form of prose creative writing. I wish to soon be able to relax my mind a bit in order to explore technical writing much more creatively in the near future.
I have read Hubs about your grandfather, an uncle, and your mother, and they all touched me with their sincerity and obvious love that you have for your family. I’m going to guess here, but I would say, based on the hubs I have seen, that your mother was the biggest influence in your life. Can you tell us why that is? What is the greatest gift that your mother gave to you?
Actually Bill, to tell you the truth, my mother has been given the number two spot when it comes to influence on my life, and mainly because I took from her much of the nurturing process she passed on to me, just as any child would: moral values, codes of ethics, hygiene, respect, listening skills, professionalism etc.
However my grandfather and his philosophy on life was far more correct, when it comes to how I should play this game of life. My mom’s judgment was somewhat in error when it came to religion, because she chose to practice a pagan religion which I truly never agreed with, so I did not follow her path in life in terms of that. I did, however, learn to become a more spiritual person by listening to her. My senses are very keen today due to Mother's overwhelming state of alertness to all things spiritual in nature, and her love for life was surely a gift that she delivered to all of her children without any price attached or hooks involved. This all was prior to her passing away back in 2006 and due to contracting breast cancer.
Losing my mother to such a wretched disease has helped pave a way for me to cope by becoming highly motivated to on HubPages and help people with health consciousness, inspirational writing, and also awareness about fighting the disease.
You are a prolific writer and a tech guru, and you use your tech knowledge to advance your writing. I know you are always thinking outside of the box, and constantly looking for new ways to use your knowledge. What new things do you have up your sleeve? What areas of technology do you want to branch out in to further enhance your writing career?
Well Bill, you’re right about that bro. I love technology and it’s been in my life since I was a child. I learned to fix televisions and VCRs when I was around 9 years old, and went on to work with electronics equipment, fixing and repairing radar communications, radios, tactical navigation systems.
Later, I worked on live circuit boards in the U.S. Navy, as a Career Naval Aviator of 10 years and Naval Calibrations expert. I guess all this heavy loaded tech info, as well as having a 4 year Civil Engineering college background, is what has been up my digital sleeves, so to speak.
I believe my technical knowledge has made me more intuitive about today’s online computing world, so it all comes so easy to me. All I need to do is think of something technical, then do a Google search for it, and presto! It is easy for me to write about that concept in simple terms.
As for breaking into new technologies, I have recently been uncovering many of the hidden secrets behind many powerful online networking, curation, and sharing tools like Pearltrees, Twitter, Facebook, Stumbleupon, Pinterest etc. By doing a great deal of web research for about three years now, it all seems to all be coming together now, and so writing all about it is what I intend to continue doing (aside from building this knowledge into my very own web locations).
I’m not sure how many know this, but you are a small businessman in Queens, New York, as well as a full-time contributor to HubPages. This will be a two-part question: one, how do you manage your time so you can get everything done and two, what is the one piece of advice you would give someone who is thinking of starting a small business?
Bill, that’s a funny question LOL. I truly don’t manage my time well when it comes to online work, but my secret is that my online activities comprise my digital E-business, or that small business that your question talks about. I do indeed recommend that small business owners develop good time management skills, though. As an online business owner, I just wish I knew how to manage my Hubbing time and social networking time better.
One other thing I recommend for small business owners is to try to network with people on the ground as well as online, because it’s terribly hard to gain ground on the web alone. When meeting people in person it’s much easier to forge alliances, collaborate, help, or join startups and to get to know people who may indeed be able to connect you with the right business leaders today. This is what I’m currently doing in my area I live in in Queens, New York, and it works wonders, especially if you have knowledge of how the web works and can help people on the ground with it all. I strongly recommend Meetup; it's an awesome way to connect with like-minded people in any small business arena.
Thanks again Bill, for choosing me. I appreciate this opportunity. I would just like to say that I have indeed fallen in love with this Hubbing community; I’ve been treated so well by everyone here, and I highly recommend that anyone interested in getting things going as a writer today join this awesomely cool HubPages network. It sure is rewarding to those who work their digital tails off.
