Have an idea? We want to hear it!

How Would You Shape HubPages' Future?

We would love to hear your insights.

HubPages is built for Hubbers, so as we develop plans for the future, we're very interested to get recommendations from the community at large. While last week we asked one very simple question, this week, we would like to hear from you about what HubPages means to you and what you think HubPages can do to help you reach your goals more effectively.

Specifically, we want to know:

  • In one sentence, how would you describe HubPages?
  • How do we help you meet your goals?
  • In what areas could we improve?
  • Is there anything that you need that we are not currently providing?
  • If you could recommend one feature that would improve the quality of content on our site, what would it be?
  • If you could recommend one feature that would boost Hubbers' earning potential, what would it be?

You can share your tips with us by adding your responses to this form: http://goo.gl/oVfkQ

What we hear from you will shape our strategic goals for 2013. We hope to hear from you!

Happy Hubbing,

Simone Haruko Smith

Tips on Submitting Suggestions to HubPages

When giving us suggestions through our feedback form, we recommend making your responses:

  • Short and succinct
  • Simple
  • Easy to read

These respones are easier for us to process and are more likely to stand out. Should we have more questions about any advice you share with us, we will contact you through your HubPages Profile. You do not have to answer every question in our feedback form, so if you have an answer to even one of the questions we pose, we would love to hear from you!

If you do not choose to fill out the form we've shared with you this week, remember that you can always send suggestions to HubPages staff about new features, processes, and policies by starting a new thread in the New HubPages Feature Suggestions Forum. We recommend making the title of your new thread short and descriptive.

Don't be afraid to share your suggestions with us! We truly appreciate your insights and if you do not share them with us, we won't be able to incorporate them into our plans.

Finally, thanks to everyone who has given us ideas, feedback, and suggestions in the past. Your contributions are much appreciated, and have shaped each and every one of the features and programs we have developed.

Don't forget to stop by that Feature Suggestions Forum!

Insights from a methodical Hubber with a love of sports

Your Hubs cover a variety of interesting and popular subjects (sports, music, health, travel). What made you start writing on HubPages?

I had never heard of HubPages a year ago, but an article in Kiplinger magazine mentioned it as an avenue to make money on the internet by writing articles. I thought I would check it out and the rest is history.

A number of your Hubs are evaluations of changes you've made to your lifestyle (changing types of gas to improve your mileage, changing your diet to improve your health). For other Hubbers, can you describe how you design and evaluate the changes you've made?

First, I try to examine things that I have wondered about such as how tire pressure affects gas mileage. Then, to begin an experiment or evaluation, I mark my starting point or baseline. For the tire pressure experiment, I determined the gas mileage I was getting with typically inflated tires. Then I made a change and looked at what that did. For the tire pressure experiment, I increased the tire pressure a specific amount and monitored how it changed my mileage. I enjoy running these little experiments, but they take time and a lot of good record keeping.

A lot of your other Hubs are about fantasy sports. How do you research and choose your fantasy picks?

Most of my research is done by watching plenty of games (much to my wife’s dismay) and trying to look for trends in players and teams. The goal is to draft a player right before he has his best season, so with baseball I follow the arc of players’ careers and try to anticipate when a breakout season will occur. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but I enjoy it and that’s what matters most.

Aren't you worried about sharing all your fantasy picks online?

I don’t think the other members of my fantasy leagues know of my Hubbing, so I’m safe for now.

You seem knowledgeable about a number of subjects and write interesting Hubs about all of them. What advice do you have for other Hubbers?

Keep writing Hubs because you never know when you will write one that catches fire on the internet. My highest traffic Hubs are ones that I never would have guessed would succeed. Eventually, you’ll write one that takes off and then you’ll be hooked.

So, most important, who do you think is going to win the Super Bowl?

Well, I would like to see my beloved Cleveland Browns win it, but that’s obviously not going to happen this season. I think the Patriots have the best chance this season.
