Christy Kirwan Interviews NornsMercy
Insights from an Artist, Fashionista, and Writer
I'd have to say: Don't be obsessed with looking your "best." Women concern themselves so much with popular trends and what looks "the best," but this leaves absolutely no room for individuality and expression. On any given day, a woman can feel like a diva or she could feel like a nun. She could feel like sexy, mischievous Cat Woman on Friday night and then when Monday rolls around she could feel fierce and brave like Wonder Woman. Makeup and fashion give women the ability to show the world these beautiful, hidden sides of their personalities.
You mention in your profile that writing is a deeply meaningful part of your life. When did you first begin writing? What inspires you to write Hubs?
When I was thirteen I became best friends with another girl my age. We lived in the middle of nowhere and there was nothing to do so we'd pass the time by writing stories everyday. We were the main characters and we'd do all these really cool things like have superpowers and meet celebrities. Before I knew it, I couldn't imagine going a day without writing!
Sometimes, I think things get over-complicated, and those who aren't rocket scientists or really wealthy get left behind. I write for average, everyday people who just want to enjoy their lives as simply as possible.
Your drawing instruction Hubs are great. Where did you learn to draw?
I was always drawing instead of listening in class (even in college). Bullying was always a huge problem for me as I was growing up, so drawing was how I got through everyday without going crazy, I guess. Also, I was a big fan of anime as a kid. I wanted to draw the pretty girls and cute cats like in the shows!
What is your #1 video game of all time?
This is a toughie! If I absolutely had to choose just one, I'd say Metal Gear Solid. It has the perfect mix of drama, romance, action, humor and espionage. It's still my favorite game fifteen years after I first played it. I think I played it last week!
Of all your Hubs, which is your favorite and why?
I'd have to say my "15 Reasons Why You Should Adopt a Retired Racing Greyhound" one. That one came straight from the heart, especially knowing that it could clear up some misconceptions about those beautiful giants while possibly convincing someone to save a life.
What advice would you like to offer other Hubbers?
If you're swayed by compliments, you'll be swayed by criticism. Love your writing first and foremost before looking to others for approval.
