davidlivermore Interviews Writer Fox
Insights from a Fox Who Writes
What made you decide to start writing on HubPages?
I work for a handful of SEO firms and one of my client companies wanted me to do some work on a linkage campaign for three of its clients. Among the hundreds of links for that assignment, my client wanted links (with the specific anchor text it chose) from HubPages. So I signed up and published three Hubs. This was exactly two years ago, November 2011. I was paid $75 each to write those Hubs and I never wrote another Hub for an SEO client. Much later, one of the businesses wanted to put the Hub I wrote for that company on its website and I removed that one. So, I've outed myself now. I was a link seeker, but only because I had kits (not a typo) to feed – a responsibility I incur every year about 50 days after mating season.
How did you come up with the persona of “Writer Fox”?
If you read my bio Hub, 'The Writer Fox Story', you'll understand. I'm known as 'the writer fox' because I'm the only one of my species who can write in the human language. There is an elephant in Thailand who can paint like Picasso and there are parrots who can speak, but I'm the only fox who can write. After I got the box of magic pencils, I connected with cyberspace to have conversations with humans. That's why I had to learn SEO, because no one could find me there until I did.
My family doesn't understand me. I'm like the little penguin Mumble in Happy Feet and Jonathon Livingston Seagull, birds of a feather. Most foxes avoid humans and have been known to bite them. But, I am now dependent upon a human who sharpens my pencils, types on a keyboard, and turns PayPal cyber money into rabbits and chickens. I'm an anomaly.
You have a lot of Hubs about poetry. Do you have a favorite poet and poem?
I have five poetry Hubs and each contains at least some of my own poems. My favorite poet is also the world's favorite poet. His poems have been translated into more languages than any other poet. In fact, he is the most widely-read poet in all of human history. His poems are found in the perennially bestselling book, the Hebrew Tanakh (Bible). Of course, I am referring to King David who lived 3,000 years ago.
I live in Israel, 5 km (3 mi) from his family homestead. The air here is saturated with his Psalms, all of which have accompanying music. Twice a day, on 51 days a year, one of David's war poems is heard rising up and covering this land like a shield. It is Psalm 27. It is a pity that so much of the poetic quality of this Psalm is lost in translation. It is my favorite and, if you could understand the language to read the poem in Hebrew, it would be your favorite, too.
4. You have incredible collections of pictures across various Hubs! What made you think to turn those pictures into successful Hubs?
I do have an eclectic mix of Hubs, some of which are like ugly children. The photo Hubs are personal collections that I've accumulated over the years. It's convenient for me to have them online and they do get decent traffic because people love photo collections. Consider the traffic to Pinterest. My Hub of butterfly photos is my favorite because butterflies are fascinating creatures and I like to eat them.
5. What future goals do you want to accomplish as a writer?
I want to do one more website in conjunction with a book I am writing. Foxes have very short life spans. It's a race to see which runs out first: the magic pencils or me.
6. You have over 100,000 views on HubPages and only been a Hubber for a couple years, what's your secret to success?
I've moved content in and out on HubPages. To make a long story short, in May of 2013, I only had two Hubs – the ones I wrote for SEO links – and the view count started over again from there. None of my Hubs are about topics which will receive tons of traffic. Even so, I reached 100,000 views on October 30. By November 8, I had another 25,000 views. From just the HP Ad Program, I reached this month's payout on November 6. I point these things out only to emphasis my answer to your question and my answer is: Success is a direct result of the intelligent use of search engine optimization. SEO includes SEO content writing. I've written Hubs about SEO and about website content writing which give more than enough information to succeed on HubPages.
HubPages is a viable website to publish individual articles about almost any topic. My success from 36 Hubs proves that publishing hundreds of Hubs – each implementing successful SEO – should produce a full-time income. Although that is not my goal here, that clearly is the potential of writing on the HubPages platform.
