Part 2 of the Hub Redesign is Live

Check Out The Latest Changes

Yesterday we rolled out the second part of our Hub redesign (you can read about the changes we made in Part 1 here if you missed the previous update). You can see the full list of changes we've implemented with this update in Marina's Blog post, but here's a quick overview of some of the biggest differences:

  • The social sharing buttons are back at the top of the Hub (on the left side). We heard your feedback and we agree that the buttons should be more visible. We believe the new placement will result in more shares.
  • New comment count icon. In the section with the new social sharing buttons there is a new comment that lists the number of comments (above 5) on the Hub.
  • "More by this Author" section is now higher on the Hub. We also replaced the Hub photo with two additional links to your other Hubs.
  • Related Hubs have been moved to the sidebar.
  • Matched Content section added. We have added Matched Content (Google's new content recommendation engine) below the Hub Feedback Bar.

We may make a few final tweaks over the next couple of weeks, but that's the end of the planned major design changes for now. Hope you like them! :)

How to Optimize for the New Hub Layout

The new Hub layout should look great without you having to do anything, but if you're one of those people who likes to tweak everything to perfection (like me), here are a few things you can do to make sure your Hubs look exactly the way you want:

  • Your real name is displayed more prominently on the new Hub, so make sure it looks the way you want. You can choose what appears in the "Real Name" field by editing or adding text to the "Real Name" field when you edit your profile.
  • Make sure your Hubs are all filed under the correct category. Category is one of the major factors that determines the placement of Hubs in the "More By This Author" section, so choosing carefully can have a big impact.
  • "Last Updated" date now has a prominent position under the Hub's title, so make sure your Hubs are all up to date. It's more important than ever to check periodically and make sure your Hubs are all current and up to date. :)
