Celebrating National Poetry Month

April is in full swing, which means National Poetry Month is as well. Though not everyone considers themselves poetry lovers—or poetophiles, if that's an offical term—writing good poetry is an impressive talent that cannot be overlooked. And we've found that the more time you spend indulging and learning about the art form, the more you appreciate it. Funny how that works!

Here are a few great HubPages articles to get you into a poetic mood for the rest of the month!

The Greats:

Writing Your Own:

We hope these great articles get you in the mood to write and explore the beauty and diversity poetry presents! To all the authors passionate enough about poetry to compose these pieces, thank you!

Pro Tips

Using Buffer Text With Headers

A formatting technique we encourage you to employ is to ensure you never have headers stacked on top of one another. That goes for Heading 2s on top of Heading 3s as well! Though it doesn't really harm the article if stacked, it looks and reads much better when there is even just a sentence of text breaking them up. We'll call this text buffer text!

If your H2 introduces a list where the points are written as H3s, it may feel unnecessary to break the two up, but you should try. You can just reiterate the header in more words or say something casual along the lines of "And now, let's get onto the list."

If your header two indicates a Q&A section will follow and it's obvious the next H3 is a question, try integrating something simple like "Now let's get into the nitty gritty on the subject" or "Let's cover some more questions you might have about [article subject.]"

Remember that headers appear blue while composing an article, but when rendered on a network site, they are all black, regardless of size. So, though the different headers might seem distinguishable in the editing tool, they won't look the same when your readers see the piece.

Some final pointers: Headers should be in APA case in all instances unless they're written as a complete question where capitalized words and a question mark feel awkward; headers should only precede text and not videos or images (let video names and captions do the work); try to integrate as many keywords into headers as possible!
