Upcoming Literary Adaptations

Page to Screen Stories to See

The worldwide success of Dune: Part Two, released in theaters in late February, marked not only the first blockbuster success of the year but also the first high-profile literary adaptation released in 2024. Well, there are plenty more on the docket. Here's a look at what's coming in the rest of the year!

The Sympathizer, by Viet Thanh Nguyen, is currently airing on HBO as a seven-part miniseries. The story follows a mole for North Vietnam planted in the South Vietnamese army, who documents struggles with his new life and where his loyalties lie.

The Idea of You, starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, comes to Prime Video next week. The story follows a single mom who brings her daughter to Coachella and falls in love with the lead singer of a famous boy band booked at the festival. It's apparently heavily inspired by Harry Styles.

The wildly successful romance novel It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover will be adapted, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, and will be released in June in theaters. The book's enduring success almost guarantees there will be hype for the film.

Wicked, an adaptation of the legendary Broadway musical that was itself an adaptation of a novel by Gregory Maguire, is slated to release in two parts. The first installment comes this November. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba (later The Wicked Witch of the West) and Ariana Grande as Glinda promises powerful vocals and stunning costume work. The rest of the A-list cast—Michelle Yeoh, Johnathan Bailey, and Jeff Goldblum—will only add to the hype.

Ideas for Low-Quality Images

Across all the HubPages network sites, we've taken the time to replace top images with ones that are free of text overlay and in landscape orientation. Finding a top image that fits the requirements isn't always as easy as it seems. In articles that discuss a person, criminal case, film, or TV show, you may struggle to find an image that is high quality, royalty-free, and the right orientation.

Here are some ideas to work around this issue:

If you have a low-quality image of your subject that will appear pixelated, put it into a template and modify it. Try placing another related (higher-quality) photo behind it or a duplicate beside it, making it appear somewhat like a photo strip. This is a great technique for stories of crime victims or biographies.

If you're writing about media, try getting a screencap of an iconic shot. For example, a screengrab of Walter White would work just as well as a poster of Breaking Bad for an article about the show.

Searching royalty-free sites like Pexels or Unsplash may result in you finding a thematically accurate image to use. If you're writing about the Twilight series, you can try searching things like "dark forests" or "full moon" to give off the idea of vampires or "pale hands" to give off the book's cover art.
