International Day for Biological Diversity

Where can you write about environmental topics on HubPages?

May 22 marks the United Nations' International Day for Biological Diversity, a day to recognize how humankind's way of life has affected the natural world and how its destruction will have an affect on us all. The day serves as a chance for the UN to highlight its goals "to stop and reverse the loss of nature by 2050."

Tying today back to what we write here at HubPages, our sites like WanderWisdom, Soapboxie, Owlcation, and Dengarden are all places where you're encouraged to write about topics like the environment, biology, and sustainability. These are all popular and relevant and are sure to generate interest.

Consider this Soapboxie article about how Poor Countries Pay a Heavy Price for Climate Change or this Dengarden piece on the Definition and Impact of Sustainable Landscaping.

If you want to write more about biology and the environment, here are some ideas:

  • Explore concepts of and the best places for sustainable and environmental tourism on WanderWisdom.
  • Take a look at the political side and ramifications of environmental activism for Soapboxie.
  • Research animals whose populations have been harmed or are threated with extinction on Owlcation.
  • Generate lists of sustainable and native plants and gardening techniques for Dengarden.

Hopefully, these ideas help you conceptualize your next HubPages article!

Ways to Create More Evergreen Content

If you find yourself tired of constantly updating aspects of your articles that are no longer accurate, you're not the only one. The process is boring and rather repetitive.

Tinkering with small details like the hours of operation for a museum in your hometown or the price of admission for children vs. adults vs. seniors at a theme park takes a lot of time and, in many ways, can feel like you're not doing much to actually improve the article. Is a one-dollar increase in admission price really going to affect whether your readers decide to visit the museum?

Well, perhaps one of the best approaches to making your content as accurate and evergreen as possible is to just remove what needs constant updates.

If you're writing about a museum and provide a capsule of visiting information, provide a link to the museum's website where the information is noted instead of writing it out. For example, you can include a simple sentence such as "Prices and hours are subject to change, so please be sure to check the organization's site before planning your trip" instead of the specifics.

If you're writing about a series you recommend watching on Netflix (or other streaming service), consider if the content is original or licensed. If licensed, it could be removed next month, and your piece is outdated. If it's original, the chances it'll stay on the site are much higher.

Those are just two ideas to help you consider aspects of your articles that change and may make your piece non-evergreen. Other elements you may want to include but may be better off leaving out are subscription prices, dates of annually-occuring events, and language along the lines of "as of the last time this article was updated..."
