Lifelong Love Between a Woman and her Companion Cat

For 5 months now, I have been helping a wonderful woman and her cat. She is going through a trial chemo series and her cat, Angel, is being treated daily for renal failure. Every day, I go to visit Angel and Carolynn. During those hours, I do things to help around the house and give Angel her required meds and subQ fluids. I've grown to love both of these sweet souls...I wish I'd met Carolynn a long time ago when times were better for her. We have had great times going out to local venues and I wish there were endless days ahead for our friendship to grow. Thinking about Carolynn and her deep love and devotion to her 15 year old companion kitty, Angel, I wrote this poem a little while ago for the two of them. The reference to "insults" and "assaults" is about the daily treatments Angel receives at my hands. Though they aren't really assaults or insults, sometimes, Angel thinks they are......The entro is as if Carolynn is speaking and, also, remembering her dearly departed soulmate, Michael.....

"We've been through so much, you and me. We're both dealing with life and death decisions. You endure daily insults but, sweet Angel; these assaults are saving your life. I cannot imagine my life withyou you. And I, I am about to enter a grueling schedule of Dr. visits and tests which promise an extension of our time together. With the loving help of friends and prayers from our ever extending circle of caring souls; I am certain that we shall spend much more time together. I love you, my sweet Angel baby."

"Angel baby, my angel baby........" Michael sang this to you as I do, today. I can hear him now, his voice so clear. He could always carry a tune better than I. .... "

Fifteen years we've shared together
Fifteen years, so close are we
Through thick and thin; through tumultuous weather
I've held you tight, you've carried me

Your eyes so bright; so clear, so true
Your constant presence is such a joy
I cannot imagine my life without you
In darkest times; you've been my buoy.

Beautiful feline companion, sweet furry one
My dearest, closest, truest friend
We've seen it all; dark clouds, shining sun
The wounds that sear; you've helped to mend

Each day I hold you close and tight
So angels of mercy can care for you
And though you fight with all your might
I know their help will see us through

When you look at me with such intensity
My heart is filled with love for you
Your companionship is so important to me
A forever relationship, one so true.

Angel baby, my Angel baby
Together forever we shall always be
Angel baby, my sweet Angel Baby
Forever and ever, that's you and me.

H avian! Yes, we're all still clinging onto happiness and life...Angel is doing very well, Carolynn is not...carrying on and celebrating as much as we Carolynn says; I want to have one more chance to "trip the light fantastic."

Nice to have such friends. Good article makes a nice sentimental read.

Diogenes, Jackie, MsLizzy, Al, Alastar, Martie, Alicia and Flourish,

Thank you all for reading my short story about a new friend and her beautiful cat. This has been and continues to be a whirlwind of change and devotion. Always praying for a miracle! assured, my friend...I am taking Angel into my home should the need arise. It will, of course; and we have already made plans for this.

Al, of course you're living this life 2000 miles away from me.

Diogenes; you are always a kind and thoughtful person when responding to my efforts here on HP dear friend who is NOT forgotten who I have always held the highest esteem AND for whom I have nOT had enough time for such a very long time...Thank you for always being constant and consistent.

Alicia...I know you understand all about the love of our animal friends and what it takes to care for them on so many levels. Bless you.'ve always been in the forefront of universal understanding about this life...and all that it entails.

Jackie, Thank you for visiting and your compassionate comment.

Thank you very much for helping Carolynn and Angel, Kathy. Your story and poem reminded me of one of my much loved cats who needed me to give him subcutaneous fluids for renal failure. The treatment did help him to feel better, and I'm sure that he lived much longer than he would have done without the fluids. I hope things go as well as possible for both Carolynn and Angel.

Dear Kathy, I know how you feel Carolynn and Angel and I know that this is an act of the love you feel for them. Time passes so fast, it doesn't seem that it's been that long you've been helping with Angel. I look forward to our late night talks about your day and all it involved. Thank God you'll be Angel's new mother when Carolynn is done with this world. I now this gives her peace. Hopefully we'll all be together again.

Such beautiful sentiments; I so understand. Typing through sad yet happy tears, here...

      Voted up and awesome.

I'm glad that they both have you to care for them. What beautiful sentiments you express here, and what a beautiful cat. I hope there is a plan for the kitty if Angel survives Carolynn. I have several elderly cats myself, including a diabetic cat, a cat with kidney issues, and another one with thyroid problems. It's so difficult getting old and watching those you love wind down.

How lucky in this uncaring universe these two sweet creatures have found you. You are a caring person to take on a burden like this and to be suffering alongside them. Life is so hard sometimes. WE are fortunate indeed if we secure someone to care for our pets when we pass on.

      Bless you dear.
