most adoptions cost about $50 or so, which includes their spaying and neutering fees. some places, especially no-kill shelters or animal rescues request that you carefully read and sign a document promising that you are not adopting the pet for food or to exploit in some way. they also request cash only as assurance that you really want this animal. if you decide you don't want the animal, most rescue shelters will take the animal back rather than let it be given away to someone who may not care for it properly.
