I have an 11 year old minature dachshund that has suddenly having an allergic reaction to...
something. She has hives and her skin looks baggy and her belly turns red. We have changed foods from the food she has been on for many years taken out and removed items we thought could be the problem. We changed her food to Science Diet ID because at first she was also throwing up, We later realized this was also part of the reaction. Our vet wonders if she is still allergic to this food as well. What food whould you suggest?
Talk to your vet about a prescription allergy diet. There are a few out there and it may take some trial and error until you find one that works for her. Check out your local pet store for some of the more common allergy diets like Lamb and potato or Rabbit and potato. These foods are unlikely to cause allergic reactions.
Are you positive that the food is causing the allergic reaction? Any changes in the environment? Fabric softener or detergents you use on your own clothing could even cause a reaction.
