I would recommend that you enroll in a live class with an instructor. Make sure it is a positive reinforcement training class - preferably clicker training that emphasizes puppy socialization and does not use any aversive equipment such as shock collars, choke chain collars, prong collars or dominance methodologies. You can supplement what you learn with reading, but this doesn't come close to the personal guidance you will need as a new dog owner.
