Proportionately, the hummingbird is a big eater. It hunts insects, but its favorite food is nectar from flowers and it gathers it enthusiastically. According to physiologists who study body functions, the size of this bird is the smallest possible for a warm-blooded animal. All the same, the poor bird has to take a rest from time to time—though there is some truth in the idea that the Bee humming-bird 'burns the candle at both ends'.

What Bits-n-Pieces said was true but are you asking just for curiosity, or are you asking because you want feed them?
If you do want to feed them, they drink sugar-water from special feeders. You can buy the water, or make it yourself.
