I would have to be a beagle. I already have three beagles and I do not think they would let me stay in the house if I were any other breed.
Well, I suspect you are looking for what "breed" would you be, but since you said "kind"....
I'd like to be an agility dog. Dogs who compete in agility are generally the best cared for, most loved dogs I know. Their owners dote on them, and yet they are treated like dogs - not accessories.
Agility dogs lead fascinating lives. They travel all over - sometimes even globally. They get to go on exciting adventures with their favorite person. They have tons of friends, both furred and smooth. They get to play the wonderfully fun game of agility many times a week which includes tons of toys, tug and treats. They get thousands of hours of individual attention just in training, not to mention at home. They always live with their people - not out in a kennel or yard. They are almost always trained using positive methods. And they get the absolute best in health and vet care.
Agility dogs have wonderful lives. Yep, I'd like to be an agility dog!!!
a german shepherd. I want to be strong, helpful to humans and being well taken care of.
If I were a dog, I would be a Labrador. Labradors are big yet tender and sweet like Tenkay, my best friend's dog.

hmmm... Does anyone know? I was channel surfing and I saw a dog show and it was in the terrier group. But, I tuned in a little late so I didn't get the name of the terrier. Oh, and an interesting fact was that Alfred Hitchcock had one. I'm searching on the internet but I can't seem to find...
