How do I persuade my dogs to go outside and do their business while it is raining?
They are house trained until it rains. Then they refuse to step out.
You can try walking them out with an umbrella over them. If that it too much of a hassle to do every time it rains, encourage them with food. Try walking them out on a leash holding a favorite treat in front of them, then when you walk them to where they do their business, unhook the lease, feed them the treat and then tell them to go potty. If they book back to the door, let them stay by the door for awhile. They will eventually have to go. Then next time, do the same thing but instead of giving them the treat before the command, do it after. Unhook them, tell them to go, if they run, they do not get rewarded.
I put my "go potty" on command. My dogs learn from a young age that "go potty" means they'd better go potty. When it's raining, I put my dogs out and they do not get to come back inside until they "go potty." They already know the command before I do this. They quickly run out, go potty and come back inside. If I let them in before they go potty, what have they learned? That they don't have to go potty or obey my commands. Don't let your dog train you - you train your dog.
go outside with them, in the rain and get wet too. stay out there until they do their business and give lots of praise, while in the rain, when they finally go... they will get the idea that its okay. If you're not willing to go out in the rain they will see it as fear in your body language and follow suit. just sayin

My husky goes to the bathroom on my new carpet constantly. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. One time she'll go out the doggy door and later she may decide to go on the carpet. It's very random and FRUSTRATING!Any...
