Have you ever witnessed anything like 'dementia' in dogs?
We have a 9-year dog with an underlying leishmaniosis. So far she has been good, besides sometimes panting and a dry nose that keeps flaking and sometimes bleeding. We recently started witnessing a special behaviour in her which we long put down as a game - she slowly starts creeping into bushes, her eyes nearly closed, as if sneaking up to some prey. She nearly gets into a stage of trance and it sometimes takes a while to 'wake her up' out of this stage. We fund it cute and she used to do it infrequently. Recently she started to do it so much that it has become difficult to complete a walk.
I have never heard of leishmaniosis being related to senility, but it is possible she has early symptoms of canine cognitive dysfunction.

Thank you for your reply, I will check these articles out! Luckily so far everything is still ok, she earns a lot of smiles on the street and we are sometimes a bit slow, but she seems to be happy. And that's of course what matters most to us.
