How Often Should I Feed My Cats?

I have 3 cats. One is middle aged, the other is about 2 and the kitten is less than 2 months. Is there a specific feeding amount and schedule for each cat? Does it depend on their breed? Often times they always have food and they tend to overeat. They are getting fat and often eat fast then they throw up their food. Any suggestions?

We use Science Diet cat food and dog food.  It says to just feed cats once a day, a cup and 1/2 of food.  That's it.  It is supposed to be really good for their digestion.  Our cat is still a kitten and so we use the Science Diet for kittens.  When he is a year old, we will switch to the adult Science Diet for cats, and I am not sure how much it will say to feed an adult cat.

Oops, meant to say just one cup for our kitten a day, instead of a cup and 1/2.

Put them on a food schedule. Dry food in the morning and wet food at night.

I have 5 cats of various ages and breeds, and have a communal dry food bowl that I only have to fill every few days. They don't over eat and they're not overweight. They each pick at it throughout the day. At 5pm daily they all know it's time for wet food. Again I put a communal plate of wet food that they all pick at at their own pace. Once they see that food isn't scarce, they won't scarf it down to the point where they get sick.

That's great information JMWillis! Thanks for sharing your experiences with your 5 cats. I will have to try this. I appreciate your input!
