I can understand if people prefer dogs to cats. What I can't understand is when I hear someone say, "I hate cats." How on earth can you hate a cat? It cleans itself, it buries it's own waste, and cats are actually practical in that they help keep rodents out of the house. We had a cat and a dog. They were pals, then the dog passed. The cat actually seemed depressed and grouchy. He moped around, bit our heels, and meowed the loneliest mewls you could imagine. We decided to get another cat. That was a good move. He started acting like a kitten again. Now he and the other cat, Cleo ( short for Cleopatra because she's thinks she's a queen) are good friends and constant companions. The only problem is that the new girl cat eats the old boy cats food. That's the only thing they argue about. Any ideas on how to keep one from eating the others food? It wasn't a big deal when the dog was alive; we just put the cats dish up on the mantle and the dog couldn't get it, but Cleo can reach anyplace we put Shadow's (boy cat) dish.

I want a kitten because they seem quite and calm. I'm also an animal lover, so I still like having a dog.

So far, we've been keeping the kitten inside our bedroom while blocking off the stairs.However... the 'barricade' that we have isn't very good...
