Home interiors is so much dependent on little things. It is tough to keep running around keeping everything shipshape. Comfort is a cushion or a pillow at the proper place at the proper time. Leaning back into a chair with a cushion is very satisfying; now try one without that cushion. Here in this DIY projects article we show you how you may conquer that bastion of comfort and add to the interior style of your home.

Keep changing your pillows

Using cushions day in and day out will make them dirty and lumpy. Two ways to keep your cushions looking great fall into these options.

A) Buying new cushions and

B) Make new cushion or pillow on your own

Obviously, one is not here to buy pillows. Let us explore the second option that is making cushions and pillows.

Assembly of material for making cushions

Begin with gathering items you will need for your project. This will include:

1) Material

a. Cloth colored and patterned – 60 cm x 80 cm for each

b. Cushion filling – old cloth or cotton waste

i. Old cloth

ii. Cotton waste

iii. Sponge –2 pieces soft and 1 hard sponge (same size as pillow)

c. Gada cloth or any tough material that is soft

d. Thread (same color as cloth)

2) Tools

a. Scissors

b. Sewing machine

c. Tape

d. Needle and thimble

Using old clothes for filler material saves you money. You do not have to run around too. People who want to use sponge or foam filling should measure the pillow size and buy foam that is smaller 10 cm in length and 10 cm in width.

Methodology is simple in pillow making

To make 45 cm x 65 cm pillows, cut the gada cloth 2 cm longer all round. Check for the rough side, by running your hand over the cloth. Keep this facing outward. Use a sewing machine to stitch three sides uniformly. Leave the fourth side open for filling your cushion or old cloth pieces. For pillows, it is better to use foam or soft rubber filling.

Now make the pillow covers or cushion covers. Use an overall length that is 10 cm more on all sides. These will have a bright side and a dull side. Keep the dull side top ways to stitch. Make a tuck along the edges to give the covers an even appearance. Use the needle to add on patchwork of your child’s favorite hero or action figure.

b) You can use cheap recycled material

c) You can start again if something does not turn out correctly

If you are able to raise enough resources and talent, you could market your cushions in the locality. You could also go online with your products and advertise them to get more customers interested.

    It has been some time since I have made a pillow. I remember my sister made some similar to the heart pillow in the video. They do make a room look pulled together.
