Doors...which one should I open?
Doors into Infinite Possibilities
Doors in Spain
Doors
The pilgrims walk the road
The Camino
Seeking life's lessons
forgiveness
peace of mind
Adventure
And along the way of the road
Are ancient villages
With ancient door ways
Ancient wooden doors
And newer ones
many doors
There is a knock on the door
And my beloved gently enters
The door slams shut
My lover has gone
What did I do wrong?
Doors of emptyness
The hollow pain
Abandoned
Forsaken
Doors of danger
Doors of plague and sickness
Leading to certain death
In ancient times
Pilgrims walked this pilgrimage
Praying that their illnesses be cured
St Vitus Dance
Spasms and convulsions
The cause?
Toxic grain moulds in damp Northern Europe
But this was not known
When suffering pilgrims
Found themselves healed
While walking the pilgrimage to Santiago
In dry, mould free Spain
This was a true miracle
Bleeding and starving
The pilgrims
Knocked on the doors of convents
And alms houses
Rarely were they turned away
Will doors open for me?
Will it be safe to enter?
Locked doors
And doors that creak open
into darkness
Doors opening into infinite possibilities
With bright golden door knockers
Brass copper and iron
Hands
Swans,
Horses,
Serpents
Sea monsters, and lions
Doors shouting warnings of
Danger
ETA Terrorists
Homes with the plague
Lacy doors that I can glimpse through
to catch fleeting images
Gardens of paradise
Bright colored doors
Red
Green
Blue
Red
With polished wood
And metal studs
Do you know
What is behind those doors?
Which one should I open?
Do I dare knock again again?
This one looks inviting
And this one
Which image should I touch?
Doors to the Past and the Future
The Way Camino de Santiago
- Walking the Camino
A path well trodden There is a road that leads to Santiago de Compostela whose history and magic I stumbled upon as a youthful backpacker, the memory of which stayed with me for many years before finally tackling a small part of it.
