Why You Should Fear No Easel !

I have to be honest, I am not an artist.

My palms get sweaty and my heart palpitates anytime I hear someone say,

  • "I want you to illustrate"

  • "Can you help me draw this?"

  • "What do you think this artist was feeling when they created this work of art?"

I get flashbacks to middle school when I drew a puppy and my teacher took one look at it and laughed. She humiliated me by showing it to the whole class, who all shared in her laughter. I swore I would never pick up another paintbrush, colored pencil, marker, or any other utensil used to create "art".

Fast forward a few years.....or twenty....and imagine my horror when a friend asked me to attend a painting session with her. "I'm sorry; I don't paint," I replied politely. "You don't need to know how to paint," she responded. "They go step by step." "You mean like paint by number?," I asked hesitantly. "Sort of, just come with me!", she plead. I frantically searched for ways to get out of going, but I am so happy I did something out of my comfort zone. I had so much fun and the staff at Fear No Easel didn't laugh at me, they worked with me (luckily we didn't have to paint any puppies).

Amazing, Helpful Artists in a Laid-Back Setting!

5 stars for Fear No Easel Social Painting

Reasons Why Fear No Easel Gets Five Stars!

From the moment I stepped into Fear No Easel, I felt right at home.

Staff greeted me at the door, took my name (I registered on-line), and they set me up with all of the art supplies I needed without any wait time.

I was with a larger group and they were able to accommodate all of us.

It was an intimate setting, yet not intimidating at all. The staff set my mind at ease since the first words out of my mouth was, "Are you sure you can't just do this for me; I can't even draw a stick figure correctly!"

The artist went step by step through the various type of paint brush to use, how to mix colors correctly, and articulated the strokes to use on the canvas.

No matter where you were sitting you could always see the artist; there were also several flat-screened televisions positioned so everyone could see the various camera angles zoomed in as well.

At first I thought that $35 was a little much for two hours, but I quickly realized I was getting much more than a piece of canvas with paint on it- I was getting a social experience building memories with friends and getting some stress-free time to exercise my left half of my brain.

Most importantly, I finally proved to myself that I can be called "artist"- there can be a little artist in all of us and we should always fear no easel!

My first class was with a couple of friends from work and we had a blast. My second class was solo, but I still had a blast. My next class will be with a group from work and I know we will have a blast. I love Fear No Easel.

I write a weekly column for the local newspaper profiling new businesses in the area. One of the businesses I featured recently was similar to this. I guess painting parties are becoming popular around the country. It sounds like fun.

Thanks Faith Reaper! I swore I would never belittle my students like she did to me.

On a positive note, painting was a lot of fun; I should send my painting to my old teacher with a lovely note ;) ! Can't wait to go painting again!

Great hub! I have actually done this with my grown daughter, and we had a blast. That is terrible what that teacher back then did to you!

Voted Way up across the board.
