The Marina Civic Center is one of your choices for finer entertainment. For plays, ballet, and some opera, the Martin Theatre at 409 Harrison Ave (downtown) is the place to go. Built in 1936, it first opened as the “Ritz”. It was originally a movie theater in its early days, before being bought by the Martin family in the early 50’s, until it was vacated in 1978. In 1987, it was renovated again, and became the state of the art theater we have today. Martin Theatre opened its doors again in 1990, with one person running the entire show, and its been running since.

The last venue, the Visual Arts Center (5 East Fourth Street), is where to go for fine art from local artists, and others. Some galleries include the Main Gallery, the Higby Gallery, the Lobby Gallery, and Impressions – a hands-on Children’s Gallery. The Visual Arts Center opened in Panama Citys original city hall, which was built in 1925. It opened its doors as a art gallery and event center in 1988, and has held some of the worlds most recognizable art, as well as art by locals, state, and regional. They host annual exhibits by Bay County School students as well. They offer classes, workshops, and lectures as well for the community.
