What online resources are helpful when designing a logo for a website?

    What online resources are helpful when designing a logo for a website?

    I'm working on my first website and need to design a logo. I realize this is most likely a job for a pro, and may outsource it at a later time. I know the colors I want, and a general idea. I also have used Gimp before, so have experience with that software ( a little, anyways) Wondering if anyone has suggestions for sites that they have used in the past for inspiration, techniques, etc.

    http://www.vectorpile.com/ is a website with free logos. It might provide some ideas for you.
    You could also try the free Serif downloads, especially DrawPlus, which might be of use. It allows you to draw text on a line. I have the paid-for versions but I have heard good reports of the free versions

    But in general it helps to find images for inspiration. Stock photos can help and you can use them as guidelines for the pen tool in photoshop (or which ever program you prefer). And, don't be afraid to draw thumbnails. Come up with a whole bunch of them and sketch them out. You never know when that great idea will strike. My biggest piece of advice is to keep it simple and recognizable at a glance.
