I hope so, but doubt it. It wasn't just that they were great artists, they were truly Renaissance men- as educated as they could get in any number of different areas.
Today education is very specialized. No one now has read all of the books in print. Master painters these days are not also master inventors, master architects, master engineers, master anatomists, and master poets.
Today someone could dabble in all that, but could never match the knowledge of experts in each single subject. There was less to learn and more to discover or rediscover after the dark ages.
