What effect does excess weight have on a car’s fuel consumption?
Removing weight from the car is the most important thing you can do to save on fuel short of not driving the car at all.
Less weight means less fuel consumption. But also keep in mind, weight over the drive wheels is needed for traction, especially in slick conditions or for racing application. Many automotive enthusiasts remove spare tires, back seats, A/C systems, etc to save weight when racing.
