Does using fuel injector cleaner work?
I've heard recommendations that you should use fuel injector cleaner every 3,000 miles and recently heard every fuel fill up. Is there any benefit to this at all? Or is it purely a marketing ploy created a placebo effect?
I have found that fuel injector cleaner does the job fairly well for what it's intended for. Alcohol which is fairly inexpensive removes any water from out of your gasoline, if you are having problems there. Fuel injector cleaner will not do anything at all for water in your gas lines. I know you didn't ask, but the reason I brought the alcohol up is because I learned about it the HARD way, and hopefully I'll save someone else the time, aggravation, and money that I went through.
I would say it's a placebo effect and a marketing ploy. If you truly want clean fuel injectors, pull them out and clean them. Then have them professionally flow tested to ensure they're all good to go.
