Is it acceptable to break the speed limit in an urban area?

I was mauled on facebook for saying that I thought people should be fined if they broke the speed limit.
I think it is wrong, people's lives are at risk.
I've done it in the past, and I was fined and got three points, but I was in the wrong so I deserved the punishment.
    I know better now.

The mauling you received is a reflection of societal attitudes that degrade rather than enrich and strengthen a nation. No, by the way, it is not acceptable, but most people live by their feelings, not by reality.

For me it is a time and place concern. I agree that speed limts exist for a reason but we've all been late for work before and pushed it. A school zone during school hours is inexcusable 100% but lets say you work night shifts and are driving on that road at 4AM, I do not think it is AS bad to speed in that situation. In any case if you are putting yourself and others at risk you need a reality check. Sadly most people only realize they are speeding when they are caught! Be aware of your speed!
