How to Cancel Fasthosts Hosting

Updated on September 15, 2012

Do you have an account with Fasthosts and are you looking to cancel your web hosting plan?

I have been using this company for 3 years to host several of my websites, overall I liked the service they offered. Service interruptions were kept to a minimum and I found the interface easy to use.

However, I do have other websites with a different host and decided to move a bunch of my old sites away from Fasthosts, who were slightly more expensive. It's also easier for me to keep an eye on my sites and hosting plans if they are all "under one roof".

I Couldn't Find The "Cancel" Option

One thing I did discover when trying to close my hosting plan is Fasthosts didn't provide a cancel option in the main control panel.

I actually had to open a support ticket with them and added "hosting closing request" in the subject line. I was then asked to provide a telephone number.

Yes, Fasthosts did call me on that number and asked why I wanted to close the hosting account. They also offered me a discount if I decided to stay with them, I refused as my other provider could offer a better deal.

Stop Digging Around The Fasthosts Control Panel

So there you have it, Fasthosts currently do not provide the option to cancel hosting directly from the control panel, you have to contact customer support instead.

That's kinda annoying but they clearly want to keep their existing customers and feel a chat with one of their sales staff might convince some to stay. The guy I spoke to was polite and not too pushy so I can't complain. I would prefer to see a cancel option without having to contact support though.

Step 1 - Select "24/7 support"

Step 2 - Select "Contact Us"

Step 3 - Fill in the Form

Don't Forget...

  • Hosting plans with Fasthosts are set to renew automatically by default. The only way to change that is to contact support.
  • Cancelling your hosting plan will not automatically cancel the domain name registration. If you have the domain name registered with Fasthosts, then you will have to cancel that separately if you no longer wish to use it.
  • If you want to keep the domain name but intend to host it somewhere else, then change the nameservers so the domain name points to your new hosting provider. You can get the nameservers from your new hosting provider.
